My Philosophy

Picture

Having spent many years with a cognitive and behavioural focus, but always finding that there was a key developmental piece missing in this work, I began doctoral studies which led me to a neurological, psychological, and social engagement-based framework that is a foundation for every human's lifelong development and well-being. Self-Reg is a framework that I have been learning about which focuses on an individual's need to feel safe and calm, which in turn allows them to become more socially connected and engaged, and this engagement with the world around them allows for natural, rather than scripted, development setting the foundation for lifelong learning and happiness.  Now, I continue research in this area, sharing this science and philosophy with children, parents, educators, and administrators. Self-regulation is one of the six essential learning skills for Ontario students, and comprises a quarter of the new Kindergarten Program. Why?  It's crucial to our well being. And, it works.
