Play Therapy Play-based therapy helps children to feel neurological safety and connection, allowing them to experience and work through their feelings and feel better. My practice includes elements of DIRFloortime, parent support, arts-based approaches through a strengths-based approach. This involves following the child/youth's lead and building on key developmental areas that support well-being in a fun way that kids enjoy.
Support for Neurodiverse Children and Adults and Their Families DIRFloortime; Developmental, Individualized, Relationship-Based play therapy originally designed for children with autism, but a wonderful play-based approach to support children of all developmental levels in self-regulation, Functional Emotional Developmental Competencies (FEDCs), parent-child relationships and self-regulation, critical to lifelong development, learning, and well-being. DIRFloortime is the foundation of the play-based therapy I do with children and families. It is parent-focused, developmental, and individualized, so it can be as casual or intensive a program as you like, depending on the needs of your family.
See this site for more information about what it is, how you can support your child, and how you can get started.
HeartMath HeartMath is an approach based on decades of scientific research on the psychophysiology of stress, emotions, and the interactions between the heart and brain that gives biofeedback on the variations between heartbeats (heart rate variability, or HRV), a measure of our stress response system and how we are self-regulating, allowing us to use a variety of reflective techniques that impact our stress response system and thus our well-being and see immediate results of some of these techniques on our nervous systems.
Coming Soon The Safe and Sound Protocol, another wonderful tool based on HRV for improving vagal tone (our stress response system) and enhancing social engagement which involves specific techniques for increasing the nervous system's ability to feel safe and calm.
